Position Summary

The Solar Technician is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Utility-Scale photovoltaic (PV) solar facilities. This role supports plant performance, equipment reliability, and regulatory compliance while ensuring maximum energy production and system availability.

The ideal candidate possesses electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills, experience working with renewable energy systems, and a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on solar PV systems and associated equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair inverters, combiner boxes, trackers, transformers, switchgear, SCADA systems, communications equipment, and balance-of-system components.
• Conduct routine inspections of solar arrays, electrical equipment, and site infrastructure.
• Analyze system performance data and identify opportunities to improve plant production and reliability.
• Respond to equipment alarms, outages, and emergency callouts as required.
• Perform electrical testing, commissioning support, and system verification activities.
• Utilize monitoring platforms and SCADA systems to diagnose faults and optimize system performance.
• Complete work orders, maintenance records, and operational reports accurately and timely.
• Support vegetation management, site housekeeping, and general facility upkeep.
• Ensure compliance with company safety procedures, OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, and environmental requirements.
• Coordinate with operations, engineering, contractors, and third-party service providers as needed.
• Participate in on-call rotation and travel between sites when required.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical degree, military technical training, or equivalent electrical/mechanical experience preferred.
• Minimum 1-3 years of experience in solar, electrical, power generation, industrial maintenance, or related field.
• Working knowledge of electrical systems including AC/DC circuits, medium-voltage equipment, and power conversion systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Proficiency with troubleshooting tools, test equipment, and maintenance management systems.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with utility-scale solar or C&I solar operations and maintenance.
• NABCEP certification or equivalent renewable energy certification.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Electrical license, journeyman certification, or related trade qualification.
• Experience with SCADA systems, communications networks, and data acquisition platforms.
• Knowledge of PV performance analytics and monitoring software.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to walk long distances across solar sites.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when required.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

Work Environment

• Outdoor utility-scale solar facilities and commercial solar installations.
• Exposure to energized electrical equipment and industrial work environments.
• Travel between assigned sites may be required.
• Overtime, weekend work, and emergency response duties may be required based on operational needs.
